Why do I need a relationship with God?

Matthew 7:21–23 (HCSB): 21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.

22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’

23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’

The reason why we need a relationship with God is because the the life we live as believers is more than just works. When we think of salvation we think of our faith in Jesus, that he paid our sin debt in full in order for us to be saved. But do we still think subconsciously by doing works we deserve to get in. In the passage Jesus address people like this. “On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?” Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’ It’s about the quality not quantity. It’s about the life you live rather than the works you do. In order for us to live the life of a believer we have to have a relationship with God to guide us through the roadblocks of this world. Anyone can do the the works of God but not everyone can live the life Christ lived. God will for us is to be like the son and that will take time but out of that relationship you build with him comes works.

When following God takes you on an unusual path

When studying Exodus chapter 5 I was reading how God told Moses to speak to pharaoh about letting his people go. His response was not what Moses expected. Not only he said no but he called the Hebrews very lazy and did not provide straw for them to make bricks. They had to get there own straw and still meet the quota. Word got out that the reason for all of this was because of what Moses said to pharaoh. The people was very upset (understatement) with Moses. Moses went to God and asked Him why did you bring harm to these people? Why did you send me? Sometimes when you know you’re in God’s will things can look eerie but have faith in God.

In my experience; I was called to preach a sermon at my church. Before then I would speak 2 to 5 mins here and there and my voice would be quivering and I would keep my hands in my pocket so people won’t see them shake. I asked God a similar question why do you have me speaking in front of these people? What I’d learned about God is that His plan is bigger than my fear of what the situation looks like. When that day came for me to preach it was the most I’d ever felt relaxed. Words came out smoothly, I didn’t stumble and I wasn’t shaking. I was blessed and I knew it was from God. I say that to say this. It might look like whatever you’re doing is in vain or a mistake but you have to believe that God plans are bigger than what you can see.

Stand firm in your faith

“If you do not stand firm in your faith, then you will not stand at all.”‭‭                            Isaiah‬ ‭7:9‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

We are living in a time where Christianity is looked down upon of two reasons: One is because of the standards that is set by Jesus and two is that christians don’t follow these standards.

The standard that Jesus gave us was to love God with all of your heart, soul, and mind. In order to love God We need the Holy Spirit to drown us in his love. This love we can’t earn but it’s a gift wrapped up for you. This gift birth love inside of your soul for God and give you that desire to know and to please Him. Even though we have this great love dwelling inside of us we are still in a fallen world with the temptations of pride and selfishness. I say that to say this. Living a godly life doesn’t come easy. It takes effort, sacrifice, and humility to fight against the devil but it is this love that works out these qualities in a Christian. It is love that is our foundation for living a life of faith.

“For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose.”                                                                                                                                ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

The other standard is to love one another as you love yourself. The world we live in now it’s a “all about me” mentality. Most people worship themselves and get irritate if something not done fast enough. Not saying that you shouldn’t have self esteem but getting out of your comfort zone to show patience, kindness and humility should be comfortable. It’s hard to think of these commandments when someone does something wrong towards you and the peer pressure of others telling you to take matters into your own hands is not helping either. Don’t bend your knee to Satan but stand firm in the faith. If you are battling the same sin that keeps tripping you then get back up and keep fighting with the faith that got you here. At first it’s not going to be natural to obey, to be patient, to choose your words carefully but if you don’t start fighting the temptation you will stay defeated. You will overcome if you stand your ground.

Building a relationship with God

To build a relationship with God takes many things like communication, trust, time, patience and many more. Sometimes we can lack the effort in our relationship with God. Our relationship mirrors a marriage and if you’re married or even in a relationship with someone you quickly realize that it takes effort to make it work. You put the effort in it not because you have to but because you want to. The difference between effort and works is the same difference between spirit and law. Living by the law is a “have to” life and living by the spirit is a “want to” life.

In this relationship with God there will be times when you will be tempted to please yourself and to live your life away from God. But when this temptation comes remember the commitment you made with Jesus.

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Look at Jesus and how he sacrificed his life to bring us closer to God. We was sinners and yet he died that we may have life. Jesus is our example of faith, love, and commitment towards our father.

“keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Our effort in our relationship with God is a act of love towards Him who loved us first by sending his son to the cross so that we may know our father.

Do Not Worry

Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Matthew 6:31- 32.

God has always been active in our lives if we see it or not. He knows what you need and He is waiting for you to give all your cares to him. (1 Peter 5:7 ) It’s hard to see God moving if your focus on getting out of the trial rather than seeing how God going to change you through the trial. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all will be added to you.

Glory be to God and God alone.

What can we learn from King Asa

In my study this morning reading 2 chronicles. I came across the story of king Asa, the son of Abijah. When I began to read the story I was thinking to myself. Wow! His heart was after God and not only that but he made sure everyone else was too.(2chr 15:13) Before then Israel was without the true God (v3) they had idols across all the land of Judah and Benjamin. Spirit of God came upon Azariah to prophesy to Asa and as soon as he heard the words he cleaned house(V8). He even move an idolatrous object from his mother Maacah (v16). God bless Asa and gave the Ethiopians into his hands and there was no more war until the thirty fifth year of the reign of Asa. King Asa obeyed and depended on God, he tremble at God’s word. We can all learn from his example to take the word of God serious and to trust God that he protect his children. Sometimes we attend to procrastinate in keeping God’s word like: making disciples, being diligent in our studies, loving others and etc. let us pray that God revamp our faith in him and bless us with a stronger passion than when we first came to Christ. Also we need to rest on God’s promises for us. “Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?”‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:13‬. “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?””

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:6‬. We need to humble ourselves not to depend on man or ourselves but God and God alone. And this was the problem in the later days of King Asa. King of Israel went up and against Judah and built Ramah (16:1) and Asa seek help from Ben-hadad King of Syria instead of depending on God. At the end of his years as King Asa had a disease in his feet and did not seek the lord still but a physician(16:12). We can also learn from this example that God desires us to depend on him for help. Whatever we are going through we have to remember that we live by faith not by sight. God’s word is our reality not our fallen perception of life.
God bless!

Waiting on the Lord

I waited patiently for the Lord ; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
Psalms 40:1

Waiting on the Lord is difficult, stressful, and uncomfortable. You see this wave coming straight towards you. You’re so close you can feel the mist of the wave and God telling you to wait. We tend to forget that God is all powerful and all knowing. We tend to forget that he cares for us and hear us crying out to him. God knows what’s best for us and will never steer us wrong. Father I pray that this verse grow in our hearts: we live by faith not by sight

The reason why people doubt God

The reason why people doubt God is their lack of faith. Their lack of faith come from ignorance of God’s love. Sometimes we’re blinded by our situations and we can’t see the love of God. We all know that God sent Jesus to be the savior of the world but he is also our mediator, high priest, redemption and our hope. Our father has provided a way for us to get through this storm. Our part is to trust that God is enough for us to get through the storm.

God bless

God’s timing is always perfect

Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:31 NASB

God’s timing is always perfect. The problem is our timing. Sometimes He will provide at a time least expected, but right on time. Sometimes He will provide when you ask him and sometimes you won’t get what you ask for. We forget that He is our FATHER! He is going to look out for our best interest regardless if we know it or not. He loves us with a passion that can’t be described in words.

God bless
