Why do I need a relationship with God?

Matthew 7:21–23 (HCSB): 21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.

22 On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’

23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’

The reason why we need a relationship with God is because the the life we live as believers is more than just works. When we think of salvation we think of our faith in Jesus, that he paid our sin debt in full in order for us to be saved. But do we still think subconsciously by doing works we deserve to get in. In the passage Jesus address people like this. “On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?” Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’ It’s about the quality not quantity. It’s about the life you live rather than the works you do. In order for us to live the life of a believer we have to have a relationship with God to guide us through the roadblocks of this world. Anyone can do the the works of God but not everyone can live the life Christ lived. God will for us is to be like the son and that will take time but out of that relationship you build with him comes works.

Abide in christ

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

John 15:4 NASB

As the love of God grow colder and colder in these last days we should make every effort to abide in christ. The culture especially in America is against God. People are lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God. Don’t let your environment change the truth. Don’t get distracted by the flashing lights of sin but remain in Christ. Abide in him with your love, mind, spirit, and in your sufferings. Continue to fight that battle of faith.

Come back

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5
Abide in the Greek mean to remain or to stay. To abide in Christ is to depend on him as the branches depend on the vine. Sometimes we lose sight of depending on Christ because of the distraction in our lives. We tend to focus on our career, kids, marriage, bills, and other things more than Christ Jesus. Theses things are good and necessary but let’s involve Jesus more in our lives. Let’s seek after his wisdom and guidance so that we can bear much fruit and prove to be his disciples. (V8)
