Encouraging for Christ

To strengthen, motivate, and build up Christians in the faith

Pursuing Holiness

but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy .”

1 Peter 1:15‭-‬16 NASB

Do you remember when you got some new shoes and you couldn’t wait to wear them in school. They was clean and you protected them with your life through out the day. But when time past your shoes get more torn and more beat up and you care less about how they look.
Are you in the same situation spiritually. When sin comes up you used to run away from it but now it don’t bother you. Let’s get back to pursuing holiness and that begins with repentance and prayer. Let’s put away the sins and everything else that hold us back from pursuing holiness.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1‭-‬2

What makes God so good!

O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

Psalms 34:8 NASB

What makes God so good is that He is trustworthy. Whatever God says you can take it to the bank. The way we get to see His goodness is to take refuge in Him. The way you do that is to dwell in His word. Dont rush reading the bible but let it digest in your soul. Let His good word melt in your heart to build faith in Him.

Selfishness: live for Christ

and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

2 Corinthians 5:15 NASB

To live for Christ is to do what he did. Jesus died that we may have life; so we must do the same. We must die to ourselves and share this gospel that we’ve been entrusted with. Oftentimes we miss opportunities to preach to people at work or even our own family. As I am typing I’m speaking to myself as well. There’s a lack of urgency on our part to share this life giving gospel. Selfishness can draw us away from serving and caring for others who need Jesus. We have to keep in mind that we no longer live for ourselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

How to Forgive and Forget

accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.

Colossians 3:13

My wife’s favorite phrase is ” forgive and forget.” I used to hate that phrase because it never made since to me. How could I forget what someone has done to me. I could be cordial with people but never let them get that close to me again. Over some years,  I’ve come to find out it’s not necessarily forgetting the hurt but not letting the hurt eat me alive. I had to tell my wife I understood what she was saying and she went on a rant about how women are always right and blah, blah, blah.

Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how many times could my brother sin against me and I forgive him? As many as seven times? ” “I tell you, not as many as seven,” Jesus said to him, “but 70 times seven.

Matthew 18:21‭-‬22

So, how does this forgive and forget thing work. The forgive part is that you acknowledge that someone or some situation has caused hurt in your life. And you proclaim with words or to yourself that your letting the pain go. The forget part is not holding on to a grudge. When peter ask jesus “Lord, how many times could my brother sin against me and I forgive him? As many as seven times? ” “I tell you, not as many as seven,” Jesus said to him, “but 70 times seven. If you’re not holding a grudge against someone you would not have a problem forgiving someone. God never intended for us to hoard our pain but to give our anxiety to Him because  cares He for us. ( I’m not saying that you should let people take advantage of you but don’t let that pain stay with you.) The way I learned how to deal with grudges is to control what thoughts come into my mind. The way you think often determine your actions. Whenever a unforgiving thought come to my mind I quickly tell myself ” I don’t think that way anymore”. The worst thing you could do is to let that thought create strongholds within you. Rebuke the unforgiving spirit and live in the love of God.

Let your light shine

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 NASB
Jesus calls us to be the light in the dark places. To give hope to the hopeless. To be a blessing to others. Everyday you should encourage someone by your actions. Loving others by your deeds and words. That in itself brings light into the darkest heart. Don’t be afraid to be the light God called you to be because someone is depending on you to show them the way.

Be diligent in your patience

”Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Matthew 7:7 NASB

Be diligent in your patience with God. Whatever you are asking for or whatever you need He knows. He also knows the perfect time to give you what you need. Don’t lose faith in the silence of your prayers but when you ask, ask expectantly. When you seek, seek with a purpose. When you knock, knock with confidence.

A Powerful Gospel

Through out the new testament we keep hearing about this good news. This gospel that saves people from their sins and the wrath of God. It’s the message of how Jesus came down and humbled himself to die for the whole world so that people may have salvation through him (Jesus). Also what comes in that message is justice. Those who believe in this gospel have been made right in God’s eyes. How can this be? Do I not have to fix myself to be in the presence of God?

Most people think being righteous is doing good works for others but that’s the results of one who have been change by this gospel. This gospel have power to change individuals who believe and Paul was well aware of this.(Rom:1:16) That’s why he was very passionate about pushing this gospel to the ends of this earth. (Philippians 1) But to answer this question: you don’t do the fixing, God does. God’s power changes you from the inside out. Before we believed that Christ was our savior the best we could do is clean the outside of the cup. Which means we can stop acting on sin but our hearts still remain far from God. Even that’s not good enough for a holy and righteous God. OK, how do I know I have this power you talking about?

As Christians we should always examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith. (2 Corinthians 13:5) The first thing to ask yourself is: what is your attitude towards sin. I’m not asking do you sin but do you hate sin? Does it make your body cringe when you do it or do you make an excuse for sin. Once we have been saved our love for God grows tremendously and it hurts to sin against God because we know how much he sacrificed to get us.

To wrap this up, if there is one point I want to get over to you is that God still saves. Their has not been anyone who is too bad, good, dumb, smart, poor, rich, black, white, pretty, ugly to receive this grace that have been made available to you.

Life changing power

When you think of God’s power you might think of the signs, miracles, and wonders of God. That is true. When we pray for God to move mountains in our lives and He does it in a way that can never be done. Oh yeah, that’s the power of God intervening in your life. But the power I’m talking about is life changing. The power that took you out of the picture and replaced it with God. The power that have you deny yourself so that you may do God’s will. The power that have people looking at you sideways because you’re not who you used to be. The power that have you crying in awe of his glorious grace. That same power that raise our Lord Jesus Christ from death to life. Live a life of power.

Our identity in our creator

Have you ever meditated on God being our creator. This all powerful God made the heavens and the earth, mankind, animals, galaxies and even time itself. And yet He cares so much about us. Before the foundation of the world he knew who we are and what were going to do.(psalms 139:16) He knows the hair on our heads (Matthew 10:30)and all our needs.(Matthew 6:8)

The devil steal this truth from us and replace it with a lie. One of those lies he tells us that we’re not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, rich enough, or skinny enough to be wanted. We have to remember that He made us in his image (Genesis 1:26-27) which means when He sees you He sees Himself. He sees His glorious work of art in you. WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD! We were fearfully and wonderfully made in his image (psalms 139:14) Our skin, size, looks, intelligence, finances, or anything else does not stop God our father from loving us. God knows who you are…… Now embrace who you are!
